Finnish Art Nouveau Brass Candle Wall Sconce, Early 20th Century

This early 20th-century brass wall sconce is shaped with a distinct Art Nouveau influence, characterised by soft curves, embossed ornamentation and natural motifs. The three elongated oval panels create a balanced vertical rhythm, while the upper section features a raised floral pattern typical of the period’s interest in organic forms. The brass surface shows a warm, aged patina throughout, giving the piece a rich, timeworn character. At the base, it holds three candle cups, allowing the sconce to function as both decoration and gentle ambient light.

The sconce reflects the broader Scandinavian interpretation of Art Nouveau — known in Finland as “jugend” — which often combined handcrafted metalwork with stylised botanical motifs. Brass objects of this type were commonly produced by workshops and small manufacturers between 1900 and 1915, though individual makers were not always marked. While the exact maker of this piece is unknown, the craftsmanship and detailing are consistent with Finnish metalwork of the period.

A decorative accent with both sculptural presence and historical charm, this sconce brings a warm glow to hallways, living spaces or entryways. Its combination of organic lines, traditional craftsmanship and aged brass makes it a versatile piece for interiors that blend modern and heritage elements.
