Oak Sideboard by Børge Mogensen for Karl Andersson & Söner, Sweden, 1960s

A compact oak sideboard designed by Børge Mogensen and produced by Karl Andersson & Söner in Sweden during the 1960s. The design is restrained and practical, with two sliding doors fitted with circular recessed handles and raised on round tapered legs. Inside, the cabinet is fitted with two painted grey drawers with sculpted cut-out pulls, paired with open storage below. The natural oak exterior provides warmth and clarity, true to Mogensen’s philosophy of honest materials and functional construction.

Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) was one of Denmark’s most influential furniture designers, known for his modern yet timeless designs rooted in traditional craftsmanship. His work for Karl Andersson & Söner extended his functionalist ideals into the Swedish context, resulting in solid, well-proportioned furniture that remains highly collectible.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) trained as a cabinetmaker and later studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under Kaare Klint. He became a leading figure of Danish modernism, creating furniture that combined traditional craftsmanship with modern functionalist principles. His designs, produced by leading Nordic manufacturers, are now considered classics of Scandinavian design.
