Pair of Mid-Century Table Lamps by Marianne Starck for Michael Andersen, Denmark

A pair of Danish mid-century stoneware table lamps designed by Marianne Starck for Michael Andersen & Søn, Bornholm. Model no. 6399. Each lamp is hand-thrown and glazed in earthy brown and ochre tones, featuring a subtle relief pattern that gives depth and character to the surface. The variations in glaze and tone reflect the handmade nature of each piece, a reminder of the individual craftsmanship behind Starck’s designs for the Bornholm pottery. Both are stamped on the underside.

Marianne Starck (1938–2007) served as artistic director of Michael Andersen & Søn from the 1950s through the 1970s. Her work for the studio combined traditional ceramic craft with a modernist sensibility toward form and surface, resulting in pieces that are both functional and expressive. This pair captures that balance perfectly, with a quietly sculptural, unmistakably handmade presence.

Both lamps have been newly rewired and fitted with E27 bulb holders for modern use. They are completed with new linen-cotton fabric shades (45% cotton, 55% linen), chosen to complement the warm, earthy tones of the stoneware.

With their compact scale and soft, diffused light, these lamps work beautifully on bedside tables, a console, or a bookshelf - bringing subtle texture and mid-century warmth to any space.
