A rare and delightful pair of solid pine rocking horses attributed to Ilmari Tapiovaara, embodying the designer’s distinctive approach to form, material, and playful functionality.

Crafted from solid pine, each piece features a beautifully sculpted and minimalist silhouette, softened edges, and a warm, honey-toned patina developed over decades. The expressive carved heads and simple geometric construction reflect Tapiovaara’s ability to merge folk tradition with modernist clarity.

Both horses are detailed with leather saddle elements, secured with metal studs, adding a tactile contrast and subtle decorative character. The visible grain and careful joinery further highlight the honesty of materials and craftsmanship typical of Finnish mid-century design.

Equally suited as functional children’s objects or as sculptural decorative pieces, this pair brings warmth, charm, and a sense of nostalgia to any interior.
