A set of four dining chairs designed by Karl-Erik Ekselius and produced by JOC Vetlanda in Sweden during the 1960’s. Each chair is crafted in rosewood with a gently curved backrest and vertical back splats that accentuate the wood grain. The seats have been newly upholstered in black leatherette, creating a fresh contrast with the deep, expressive tone of the rosewood.

Ekselius was one of Sweden’s leading postwar designers, known for his elegant and functional modernist furniture. His work for JOC Vetlanda, a company recognised for its craftsmanship and high-quality materials, often blended clarity of form with subtle sculptural detail. In these chairs, the vertical back elements and precise joinery highlight both the organic qualities of rosewood and the refined character of Scandinavian mid-century design.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER – KARL-ERIK EKSELIUS
Karl-Erik Ekselius (1914–1998) was a Swedish designer and architect, best known for his work with JOC Vetlanda. A proponent of functional modernism, he created furniture that combined rational design with refined detailing and high-quality materials. Ekselius’s designs from the 1950’s and 60’s, particularly in rosewood and teak, are today regarded as icons of Swedish mid-century furniture.
