Set of six dining chairs designed by Danish designer Henning Kjærnulf in the 1960s. Made from solid oak, the chairs are defined by their tall, carved backrests with flowing crosspieces and distinctive circular cut-outs. Sculpted legs and shaped seat frames continue the expressive character of the design, while the oak displays a warm tone and lively natural grain.
The chairs represent the more expressive side of Danish mid-century design, combining traditional furniture-making with bold, sculptural forms. Kjærnulf frequently worked with solid wood and emphasized the natural character of the material, creating furniture with a strong connection to traditional Nordic craftsmanship. Here, the carved details and substantial oak construction give the chairs an almost folk-inspired quality while remaining functional and comfortable dining furniture.
The generous proportions and upholstered seats make these practical for everyday use, while the high sculptural backrests give the complete set a strong presence around a dining table. The warm oak is complemented by newly upholstered seats in light grey bouclé, creating a natural contrast between the solid wooden structure and soft upholstery.
