Swedish Mid-Century Solid Pine Stool, 1950s
A compact Swedish mid-century stool in solid pine, produced during the 1950’s. The seat is slightly concave for comfort, with softened edges and visible circular plug joinery. Four broad, angled legs give the piece a stable stance and a grounded, sculptural presence. The pine shows a warm tone and visible grain, emphasising the natural character of the material.
Stools like this reflect the influence of Swedish folk carpentry on mid-century design — straightforward in construction, yet carefully proportioned and finished. Pine was a practical and abundant choice, valued for its durability, ease of working, and ability to develop a rich patina over decades of use. While the maker of this piece is unknown, its form and detailing are consistent with quality Swedish workshop production of the era.
Versatile in use, it can serve as extra seating, a low side table, or a display stand. Its small footprint makes it easy to move and place anywhere, while the solid pine construction ensures longevity.

ABOUT SWEDISH MID-CENTURY PINE FURNITURE
In post-war Sweden, pine furniture maintained a strong position alongside modernist designs in teak and oak. Makers drew on vernacular forms and carpentry techniques, adapting them to a new domestic context. Solid pine pieces were often left with visible joinery and expressive grain, creating furniture that was both functional and connected to the country’s material heritage.
