Wrought Iron & Wood-Slate Floor Lamp by Taidetakomo Hakkarainen, Finland, 1930s
An expressive Finnish floor lamp by Taidetakomo Hakkarainen from the 1930s. The tall wrought iron structure is richly worked with twisted sections, scrolling lines, leaf details and a flower-shaped finial. Its dark green-black patinated surface is picked out with small gilt details, while two large wood-slate shades bring warmth and contrast to the metalwork.
A highly individual piece that works as much as a sculptural object as a functional floor lamp. The open wood-slate shades filter the light into a warm glow, while the tall, narrow structure gives the lamp considerable presence without requiring much floor space. The original patina is an important part of its character.
